Be GDPR compliant and avoid finesGDPR came into force on 25th May 2018. So the deadline has passed and the hype died down, but you need to be 100% sure that you satisfy the legal requirements of GDPR. You can follow our GDPR guidance and implementation steps on freshdesk, but if it's still a mystery to you then let us tackle it and sort your website's GDPR. Typical cost is £225+VAT and includes checking your policies, scanning your cookies and setting them up in Cookie Manager.2. Upgrade to https and display the 'green padlock' to visitorsBrowser providers like Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge are progressively updating browsers and warning your website visitors if you do not have https data encryption to protect traffic passing over the web. Make sure you professionally upgrade to https - it's about more than just adding an SSL certificate! We can save money with a free SSL but also scan pages for issues that break your green padlock, bulk update blog posts and make sure your analytics and search console work once you move to https. Typical cost: £150+VAT including free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt.3. Make sure your site is mobile friendlyIf you haven't already migrated your site to a mobile-friendly version, then now's the time to do it with the new 'mobile first' re-indexing of the web by Google. All business websites need to be mobile friendly! Typical cost: £600+VAT to migrate your current design. Full re-designs can be quoted based on your requirements.Need Help? To book any of these services contact your account manager or call 0330 311 2810 and speak to a specialist for a plain English explanation of what's involved.

GDPR Restricted Processing Feature

Under GDPR registered users can object to having their data processed. In REC+ this means restricting processing via Email Manager (so the user won't be included on emails) and in User Manager and Prospect Manager a red warning message is displayed when you select the user advising:"Restricted UserThis user has been restricted from processing under GDPR, please do not contact them or process their data."To mark a user as restricted go into User Manager > select their user record > Status & Levels tab > tick the field 'Restricted User'.

Reducing Spam, GTIN Product Feed Enhancement & REC+ Version Numbering

Combating Form Spam. There has been a recent sharp increase in spam, some of which is by-passing Google Captcha, in particular from Russia. We have introduced our new Intelligent Spam Filter to help combat this. In the most obvious spam cases, when the spammer has wasted their time submitting the form we will automatically reject it without their knowledge. For other possible spam items, we will place them in the spam folder of the corresponding form in Forms & Processes.Google Products Variation Manager. This has been renamed from 'Multi Ad Generator' and you can export your product feed data to a CSV file, modify it with any alterations you need, then import it via the Import System, selecting Google Products GTINs in step 2. The reason this change was introduced was to help the situation where products are set up with multiple options and each one needs its own GTIN (in this case for clothing that had a GTIN for each size/colour combination). REC+ Version Numbering. Because we are rolling out continuous product updates we will no longer be displaying version numbers in REC+. Our team works on the software every day of the week keeping it up to date with security updates, software patches and enhacements. The updates are automatically rolled out overnight to all sites, meaning your software is always on the very latest version available. NB If you are an REC user then remember to switch to REC+ for free currently in your admin console!

Filtering Users By Subscribers & Assigning To Groups Plus Script Finder

Filter Users By Subscriber allows you to select your users in User Manager > Filter Users by whether or not they have subscribed to your newsletters. You can then assign selected users into specific user groups (1,2,3 refer to the groups shown on a user record) which you may want to do for segmentation and emailing purposes. NB Email Manager will not send to users who are not marked as subscribed.Filter Users who are ungrouped allows you to find users who have been entered without being assigned into a group, so you can quickly identify them and then add them into the desired group.Script Finder is a new program which allows you to scan areas of the website to find scripts that have been embedded in the site, such as 3rd party apps or tracking which may introduce cookies and therefore you need to be able to turn off those scripts in conjunction with Cookie Manager.View this article in full on freshdesk

GDPR Update - Please Read

We have been working hard to ensure the REC platform complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25th May 2018. This is a heads up about the changes we will be releasing next Tuesday 24th April which will enable you to take many of the necessary steps to ensure you are compliant.New Cookie MessageA newly-worded cookie message and layout will be displayed to first-time visitors in place of the existing message. The new message will inherit the colour schemes of your site if you have adapted it. New Cookie Pop-up (for responsive design websites)When the Cookie Settings link is cliked it will fire up a modal window giving the visitor the ability to manage which cookies they wish to allow, as required under GDPR. A version of this will be made available for non-responsive websites at a later date. Positive Opt-in Consent For Newsletters / Email CampaignsThe system will cater for positive opt-in consent to newsletters where the individual will have to tick a box to be added as a newsletter subscriber, rather than it being pre-ticked for them.Re-permissioning For Email CampaignsA re-permissioning process has been defined to include a program for bulk unsubscribes and a new "Subscribe" field which can be added to email templates to allow people to opt-in to future marketing emails.Form Data Collection TipsThis enables you to add some explainer text on form fields to explain why you wish to collect that particular data. Users Can See Their Form SubmissionsUsers will be able to see what forms they submitted on your site when they log in to their User Home page.Additional AuditingThe audit log will keep a record of when users are added to the system and when there are changes to their newsletter subscription, status, level and group. This will help administrators to see what has happened historically as part of complying with individuals' rights to restrict processing or to be forgotten. What Will You Have To Do?We will be providing guidance on the steps you need to take to use these new features when the release is made available next week. There will be further releases before the 25th May which are more targeted towards alerts and notifications when administrators access private data. This is part of extending the perimeter for data breach detection because many data breaches originate from inside a company rather than being external website hacks.

Paypal Upgrade Recommendation

Applies To: Ecommerce Sites Taking Standard Paypal Payments Through The Checkout ProcessDoes Not Apply To: Paypal Encrypted and Paypal Express methods, or Form paymentsWe have recently received a few reports where a small number of users paying via the standard Paypal method have had an issue completing the payment process. This does not apply to your site if you instead use the Paypal Encrypted and Paypal Express payment methods, or you are taking payments via a form rather then the normal checkout process. This is a small, random problem which we cannot recreate and Paypal cannot offer an explanation why it has occasionally occurred. We therefore recommend you consider moving to Paypal Express which has not had any reported issues and also offers a much smoother and faster checkout process for the user as an added benefit. How Do I Know If I Am On Standard Paypal Payments?Go into Payment Processors Manager and see if "Paypal Or Credit Cards" is set to a Status of "on" and Mode of "live". If it is then we recommend you migrate to Paypal Express. How Do I Update To Paypal Express Checkout?Follow this article on FreshdeskTest!Make sure you test your changes by successfully putting an order though the checkout process using the Express Checkout method you have set up.

Introducing the Module system for custom content

We are excited to announce the release of Version 7 and the Module system which is now available to REC+ users. This brings a new method of creating and displaying custom content and optionally displaying the data on web pages with full design control for web developers. In this way you can use a single design style to create unique pages with their own URL's and content plus tagging and filtering, all populated from a database table you define yourself. On the fun end, you can create polls and make better looking team pages. Or maybe you want to publish web pages containing detailed recipes, technical FAQ's with lots of data fields, case studies or knowledge articles - all nicely styled the way you want. You could also store your business data in the site which only admins can view and edit, such as audit reports, project tasks, approved supplier lists, purchase authorisations and more. We have provided documentation on Freshdesk on how it works. Due to the bespoke nature of custom content, all implementation, support and training is chargeable time.

Scheduled Maintenance Tuesday 20th Feb 9am - 10am

IMPORTANT: Scheduled MaintenanceWHEN: Tuesday 20th February between 9am - 10amTIME: Up to 10 minutesUPDATES: Follow our twitter feed for updates IMPACT: We advise not to update content or products on your site during this period as a short reboot will be performed. Follow WildfireNet on Twitter to see when the work has been completed.SCHEDULED WORK:Our data centre technicians are performing upgrades to our servers to apply patches for the Meltdown and Spectre 1 security vulnerabilities which were exposed in most modern computers within the chips themselves. These potentially allow access to data an attacker shouldn't be able to read.Whilst these vulnerabilities are serious and affect computers including PC's, they are generally less so for servers since an attacker would require access to the servers, which we already prevent by having tight lock down procedures and therefore your data has been kept secure. These updates include fixes for two of three vulnerabilities, the third being Spectre 2 for which fixes may be some way off, so rather than waiting for that we're pushing ahead with the currently available fixes. Once the fixes for Spectre 2 become available we will shedule another maintenance slot.

Available Tuesday 6th February 2018You now have the ability to enter an email signature on admin user records (in this case you'd be using it for sales agents) and have this displayed within the emails you send via Prospect Manager by adding in the tag {{ email_signature }} to the "email quote" system page. Membership number (often renamed to Account ID via site defines) now appears on the main user record and prospect activity record which saves having to look it up. The "value" field displayed in the email message will be suppressed if the value is zero (tip: remember to remove the preceding text which is normally just the word 'Value".

Weekly Tips, Email By User Tag, Manufacturer Meta Data, Google Tag Manager & More

We have introduced a number of enhancements including Weekly Tips to help admins with your conversion optimisation program, being able to email by user tags so you can precisely segment who receives your campaigns and you can now connect to Google Tag Manager to make it easier to insert 3rd party tracking code. In ecommerce, you can add meta data on Manufacturer records for improved SEO and Order Manager has improved sorting to complement the recent release of 30-day session cookies. There's a minor tweak in Download Manager to allow you to drag and drop the download file in without needing to click to upload it. For Prospect Manager users, we have now made it easier to roll forward a reminder with some pre-set links to add an hour, a day etc, plus you can now create a prospect directly from a form created in Forms & Processes. There's also a small feature to disable a dropdown option temporarily on a form by adding a '-' in front of the drop down text. These enhancements are available on either 26th or 30th January.Read more on Freshdesk

Introducing "Ignore Rules" To HTTPS Reporter

This handy new feature in HTTPS Reporter allows you to block out URI reports from irrelevant sites or browser plug-ins, so you only see relevant issues that require attention in your report list. How It WorksTo use this feature log in to your HTTPS Reporter account and select a domain to see a list of reports. On the right hand side is a new Ignore column with a button to set this URI to be ignored based on an EXACT URI match or a PARTIAL match, which you select in the dropdown option.Illustration: Ignore button now present in the right hand column Illustration: Select EXACT or PARTIAL matching when adding a rule. For example, use PARTIAL matching by simply entering a part of the URI, such as the main part of the domain name, to stop all different variations of the URI coming through as reports.Once the URI as added, then all future reports are blocked. You can "un-block" the URI by clicking on the Config button when you have selected one of your domains, where you can also see a list of all ignored URI's and the number of times reports have been ignored from them.Illustration: View all ignored URI's via the Config button Which Version Is This Available In?This feature is freely available in all paid plans.I Haven't Used HTTPS Reporter Yet, How Do I Get Started? You can read how to implement HTTPS Reporter here.HELPFUL HINT: We recommend reading the Enterprise Guide which has useful tips for everyone. What Next?We will look at intelligently blocking out more of the common plug-ins by default in HTTPS Reporter by monitoring commonly ignored rules across all sites.Recap On Recent UpdatesIgnore Rules to block unnecessary URI's Spike activity graphsTeam sharing (Enterprise users only)SSL Certificate validation checksSSL expiry notifications

HTTPS Checker V2 Released (Time To Migrate To HTTPS)

Version 2 of HTTPS Checker & Reporter has now been released with a range of new features, some particularly useful for larger site crawls, and both apps have now been officially taken out of BETA.HTTPS Checker desktop app features include:Pause The Scan. A new pause button allows you to pause and restart your scan. Useful if you are about to lose your internet connection, need to leave the office etcPDF Summary Is Now Just A Summary. The PDF Summary no longer shows issues in it, as these are in the on-screen report and CSV downloads. On-screen Report Pagination. Pagination has been introduced so that 10,000 issues can be viewed on a page on screen, before advancing to the next 10,000 issues on page 2 and so on. This helps larger sites where the high number of issues was causing the report not to work due to memory constraints. CSV Download File Splits After 50,000 lines. CSV files are now created per 50,000 lines of errors found and grouped into a zip file. Again, this overcomes memory issue contraints for larger sites. View Crawl Logs. There is now a button to take you directly to the crawl logs stored locally on your machine. The 2 log files report errors found during the crawl and also all URL's scanned. Two NEW Advanced Settings Sections. Two new informational sections have been introduced to give guidance on Import (upload lists of URL's to crawl) and CSP (using Content Security Policies with HTTPS Reporter to catch violations in rel-time). HTTPS Reporter Manual Validation. It is now possible to manually validate sites that are behind firewalls or have restricted access, such as dev or UAT sites. Installing the features: the new feautures are automatically installed when you run or restart the HTTPS Checker app.NEW HTTPS Reporter features include:URI Issues Limit Ignores Duplicate Triggers Of The Same CSP Violation. The system used to count each occurrence of a CSP violation in the 100 or 1,000 limit (based on your plan) for example, 1,000 user visits to a page with 1 error gave 1,000 issues and therefore reached the limit. This has been substantially improved so that duplicates do not count in the limit and instead show as a count on each line of a unique CSP issue. NEW Notification Email Address. Set an email address to receive notifications (different to the email address used for registering the product). Hint: If you have a team of developers, then enter an email address which has a redirect to the entire of the team. Set this up via the admin dropdow > Licences / Subscriptions and scroll down to the field "Send Email Notifications to:"Installing the features: the new feautures are automatically available when you login to the HTTPS Reporter app.Blog Posts / ArticlesGuide on Migrating Enterprises & Large SitesSimple examples on using robots.txt to crawl larger sites. REC / REC+ Sites - Time To MigrateThis tool can be used in your HTTPS migration if you haven't already switched.
Time To Migrate To HTTPS !

Time To Migrate To HTTPSWhat Is HTTPS?HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is an internet communication protocol that protects the integrity and confidentiality of your users' data as it is sent from their computer to your website over public networks including WiFi hot spots. Secure sites running on HTTPS have an SSL certificate and a visible green padlock in their browser to show the connection is secure. Why Is It Important? It helps stop criminals intercepting data as it passes over the internet, preventing them stealing valuable data entered via forms, such as logging in to a site, making a purchase or subscribing to newsletters. Having login data is especially valuable because it can be used to steal identities or access sensitive data on any other sites users access using the same login details. It also reassures people to see the green padlock on your site. There is a big push for businesses to move to “SSL everywhere”, and Google already confirmed that HTTPS has become a lightweight ranking signal so there is even a small SEO benefit to be gained too.You may also have noticed many sites that have login forms or ask for credit card details now show as "Not Secure" in the browser. Google Chrome, Firefox & others have started to point out when sites don't have HTTPS like so: - or - How Do You Migrate To HTTPS?You can migrate yourself with the instructions on the Migrating to HTTPS site or purchase one of our services to perform the migration for you: DO IT YOURSELF -or- DOWNLOAD OUR SERVICE & PRICINGHow Do I Arrange To Have My Migration Started?Contact your regular Account Manager or the support team on 01386 570 360 to discuss our paid migration services.NB New pricing applies and supercedes previous offers or quotations.
Christmas Support, The Year In Review & 2017

Christmas Support As usual, we only provide technical support over the Christmas period, namely server and uptime monitoring, starting 12pm on Friday 23rd December. Regular advice, support and project services will be resumed at 9am on Tuesday 3rd January. Please log any calls on our ticket system as the office will be unmanned for this period. The Year In Review2016 was a busy year for the REC team, working on a lot of new features for the software and pushing out 16 enhancement releases in the last 12 months. This also included the new Admin Centre redesign and the introduction of REC+ packed with premium features which existing users can still upgrade to for free till the end of January 2017.As ever, REC was continuously worked on with security updates and regular software maintenance to keep everything up to date and protected from hackers.A major server infrastructure was undertaken with a significant hardware upgrade, version updates on system software so we always remain within supported versions, plus we migrated to a better backup and failover system.Recently, we invested in an in-depth database and server analytics tool which has helped us to further optimise REC and improve page load performance. A separate project saw us create our HTTPS mixed content checking app for scanning websites and identifying issues that break HTTPS. This is an important step in moving to HTTPS everywhere on a site, something which Google is driving hard for everyone to adopt. Our app is now in worldwide use by leading companies, charities and universities including Symantec, BBC Studios and HTTPS experts in Google. The Impact Of Google Algorithm Changes On TrafficThe past 12 months has seen Google continue to push paid adverts ahead of organic results. This has inevitably led to some customers losing traffic. Recent changes have also made it more difficult for website owners to ensure they only get visitors from Google Ads who are likely to convert into customers. This makes working with an experienced Google certified agency such as ourselves absolutely critical to the ongoing success of your business. Remember Google Adwords exists to make Google money, our services are there to make sure you do too!Any customers who feel they have been impacted by these changes can contact us to request a complimentary consultation from one of our experts.Looking Ahead To 2017HTTPS migration will become increasingly important in 2017 as browsers continue to warn users of pages not operating fully on HTTPS. We are able to help you with the migration and monitoring process using our tools and processes.Lead generation is also an area of focus, helping you to nurture and convert more visitors to prospects and then sales. We expect this to be used by companies who sell services, as well as on- and offline retailers with telesales teams. This has already started with improvements to the email system plus a number of other features. We will offer services to work alongside growing businesses to implement this next year.Additionally for online retailers, we are looking into improved merchandising features to help drive more sales in the store. We also hope to trial a price comparison tool to track how your promotions and a basket of products measure up to your competitors' pricing strategies. And on top of this, we will continue to look at how to make REC even simpler to use and more intuitive so you gain maximum advantage from our software. And Finally...Thanks for using our services, wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Email Tracking Improvements

Email tracking has been improved within REC so that when you View Sent Emails and select a campaign, it provides the following analytical information:User Stats: Displays opened and/or clicked on your email, now with the ability to sort by Member Levels Preview: NEW Link Map Displays which links have been clicked; also useful to optimise future campaignsAlso Available When You Upgrade To REC+Overview: Campaign overview and graph of activityEcommerce: Displays order values, products purchased, list of orders and coupons redeemed, plus profit (which excludes delivery charges). NB Profit is worked out correctly where you have already entered your cost data on your product record, otherwise it will just be revenue less delivery charge. Form Responses: NEW Displays which forms have been completed as a result of a click-through from your campaign

UPS, Free Delivery & Gift Voucher Improvements

UPS Delivery Adaptor Selection For ZonesYou can now specify whether a delivery adaptor (i.e. a delivery service provider like UPS) is to be used for calculating the delivery charges for a specified delivery zone. An example would be if you want to use a standard delivery charge just for users living within the US 48 states, which would be calculated using the standard REC delivery system, with all customers outside the US48 getting a calculated delivery charge from UPS. NB UPS is the only delivery adaptor currently available but this could be extended in the future. To set this up:1. Go into Delivery Zone Manager.2. Set up or edit any delivery zones which use UPS calculated delivery charges by setting the Delivery Adaptor field to UPS3. For all other delivery zones, ensure the setting is Default to use the REC standard delivery service. NB It can only be set to Site Settings Default if the setting for Delivery Adaptor in Site Setting > Delivery > General is also set to Default.4. Save the change and test it worksMake Free Delivery On Individual Products Available Only To Specific ZonesOn the product record, you can now select a zone to which free delivery applies. This works in conjunction with the existing free delivery settings in Site Settings where you set free delivery values. For example, you might want free delivery on individual products under $20 for buyers in the US48 delivery zone only, in which case you'd go into each product under $20 and set free delivery with US48 selected as the zone.It is suggested you change just one product and test it first before proceeding onto all the other products.Restricting Payment Processors For Gift Vouchers / Digital Products (REC+ only)Gift Vouchers have been improved so you can now specify which payment processor methods are available for digital products such as Gift Vouchers. This closes off a loophole where someone could add a gift voucher to their basket and then use a Cash On Delivery payment processor to by-pass payment but still receive and redeem the Gift Voucher. To set this up:1. Go Into Payment Processor Manager2. For any payment processors which do not take an actual payment (e.g. Cash on delivery), untick the field Applies to digital products?3. Save the change and test it works.

REC Admin & REC+ Update

A big thank you to everyone providing feedback on our new Admin re-design, which has been overwhelmingly positive and it's been great to see so many people migrate to REC+ already. Here's a quick roundup of what we've worked on this week: Updates To The Admin Console All Reported Issues FixedFirst we fixed a number of minor issues that were flagged up to us by different users, so thanks for the eagle eyed amongst you! All these changes have been rolled out automatically and we have nothing left outstanding. Pin Comments To The Top More Quickly It's quicker to pin comments to the top of a Comment screen because we moved the "star" icon to be right next to the Add Comment button. This is especially useful as a way to track outstanding actions set against a user or an order by adding them as comments which you can then see quickly at the top of the screen when they are pinned. Once you complete the comment containing the task, then simply tick the "star" icon again to un-pin it from the top. Read about more ways to benefit from the Comments system De-clutter By Archiving CommentsThere is now an Archive facility for comments, with an" archive" box icon appearing next to the "pin to top" star icon on the right hand side of each comment line. When you click to archive it greys out the comment and you can tick to "Hide Archived" comments in the "Switch" comments section in the top right of comment screens. Get To User or Order Comments More Quickly On The Main Admin Screen. We also added some extra links on the Dashboard comments section so you can get to User comments and Order comments in just one click. Email Notifications Link Straight Back To The Place The Comment was Raised. When someone @mentions you in a comment, it sends an email to let you know. When you click the link to reply it takes you directly to the pace where the comment was added, rather than the All Site Comments section, which is more intuitive. More Program Space Now AvailableThe header navigation now hides itself when you scroll down the page so you have all available screen height in the program you are using. When you scroll back up the header re-appears at the top. Users Are Migrating To REC+ We have seen a large number of users migrate to REC+ already. This is totally free your charges will stay the same unless you opt to use the paid features. To upgrade... Simply click the "Upgrade To REC+" link in the new Admin Console to automatically move to the new version at no extra charge. Please note that we will continue to support and maintain REC sites who do not wish to upgrade at this time. What Are Those REC+ Features Again? Generate Real Time Leads Early Bird EnrolmentGenerate leads from email campaigns and receive instant notifications when the prospect opens them, meaning you know when they are most interested to buy. Cost: FREE Software Upgrade, 4 user licences included.
REC Admin Is Getting A Makeover

It's been quite some time since we updated the way Admin Centre looks and we have been working on a cleaner and simpler interface which better highlights important core metrics, whilst still working the same way operationally. This means more helpful dashboard information (which reflects whether you use the site for content management or selling products) plus simpler program layouts and record management. This is part of the ongoing progression of REC to ensure you always keep pace with the market in terms of features, search engine changes, web security and of course the user interface, which uses Google Material Design as the guiding design principle. We will be pushing out this new look during w/c 17th October 2016 and will welcome your feedback to make further improvements to the interface. Hopefully you're excited to see the new look, so here's a quick preview for you now: The New CMS Admin Screen Design The New Ecommerce Admin Screen Design Interface Changes At-A-Glance

NEW Guest Checkout & Postcode Lookup

Available Tuesday 11th October 2016. We are pleased to announce 2 significant new features available in the checkout process: Guest Checkout ModificationLet's buyers go through the checkout as one-off guests, whilst still allowing other regular users to track and manage their orders. This often suits buyers who are making one-time purchases and do not want to be subscribed to a site in any way. If they decide to make future purchases then they can re-use the same email address as many times as they wish. This is different to the normal checkout process which gives a message saying the email address has already been used therefore forcing the user to go through password recovery to be able to proceed. Key Changes & Differences In The Checkout Process:1. Captcha verification field removed from registration (applies to both checkout processes, we now use a hidden and more robust security method)2. The same email address can be used during repeat guest checkouts without the need for a password3. "New User" emails are suppressed, which removes any reference to passwords being used, but order confirmation emails are still sent out. Passwords are now automatically hashed out in emails. 4. Guests can only post testimonials if allowed via a new site setting in Site Setup>Web Display Elements>Guests can post testimonials? From an Admin perspective, the buyer is stored in the database as a part-approved user, accessible via Manage Users, and It is possible to turn the guest buyer into a registered user by setting their status to approved. All orders from guest buyers will be added into Order Manager as normal. Changing The Text On The Checkout Registration PageYou can amend the checkout registration page text to refer to it being a Guest checkout via the system page checkout_fast_reg in Page Manager. You can amend the text which normally says Track & Manage Your Orders plus the text underneath via the site definitions FAST_CHECKOUT_SIGNUP_ASWELL and FAST_CHECKOUT_SIGNUP_ASWELL_SUB in Set Site Definitions. Postcode Lookup (UK Only)Allows buyers to enter their postcode and street number to automatically populate their address details and therefore save time and reduce inaccuracies. This is a paid service provided by external providers typically costing 2p per lookup (lower charges apply based on large volumes or monthly subscriptions). To use this facility you will need to sign up with either https://ideal-postcodes.co.uk/ (recommended to get started using their bulk purchase plan with email notifications when you get low) or https://getaddress.io/ (requires a monthly subscription, but gives better value for higher volumes). Implementing Postcode Lookup1. Sign up with your chosen provider to obtain an API key2. Enter the key in Site Setup>Delivery>Address Finder/Postcode Lookup Adaptor3. Test it works on your site. Additional Change: User Home ScreenYou can now hide the Display Name field when a registered user logs into their home page and edits their account. (Reminder: The Display Name is a nickname that users can set for themselves which then appears on testimonials or reviews). Testimonials ChangesUsers can now add testimonials at the top of the page, rather than having to scroll to the bottom. By default, 100 testimonials are now shown on a page before needing to scroll to the next page. This value can be changed via Site Setup>Web Display Elements>Number of testimonials to show per page. Click here to see this on Freshdesk

IMPORTANT: Protect Your Shopping Ads Now!

BULLETIN TO ONLINE RETAILERS: AVOID LOSING YOUR PRODUCT LISTING ADVERTS IN GOOGLE!Google has started to enforce the use of HTTPS on ecommerce checkout processes by blocking sites from using their Product Listing Ads service. We are therefore recommending implementation of HTTPS for the checkout pages on all our ecommerce websites to avoid disruption to your campaigns. What is HTTPS?HTTPS provides end-to-end encryption of traffic passing between the web surfer's computer and website servers. Sites using HTTPS have URL's beginning "https://www.domain...." and Google is driving adoption of this technology across the web. Do I Really Need To Do This?Yes, we strongly advise you implement this. Whilst only PLA advertisers may be affected today, it is highly probable Google will introduce further changes to push web surfers to the most secure sites via search engines and other methods in future. We have already seen this with rankings being partially based on the use of HTTPS and recently on Google Chrome with the introduction of an "Information" message advising the web surfer if the connection to a site is not private (i.e. does not use HTTPS). What Is The Solution? We are recommending using Cloudflare's global Content Delivery Network (CDN) to implement HTTPS on your checkout pages. In addition to providing the SSL certificate which enables HTTPS on your site, it has other significant benefits: Faster Delivery - Global CDN means sites load faster espeically in distant locations like the US, Australia, Asia.Threat Protection - use the power of a huge community to identify and mitigate threats from hackers Block IP Addresses - Control who can get to your website by their IP Address or country of originThis will also prepare you for the move to full HTTPS across your entire site in the future. More to follow on that later this month. What Do I Do Next?Implement Cloudflare for your site, set up your DNS records and SSL certificate and enable SSL for checkout in your REC site settings. There are two ways to do this: DIY - handle everything yourself without our help and pay Cloudflare's monthly charges directly,orFully Managed Service - we will implement everything and manage how Cloudflare works with our software and infrastructure for a monthly charge of £25+VAT which includes the Cloudflare service at no extra cost.Note: This means you do not have to purchase a separate SSL certificate therefore avoiding annual SSL costs and implementation / renewal fees. Ordering The Managed ServicePlease contact Michael Rose via email on michael.rose@wildfireinternet.co.uk or call us on 0845 643 1290 to organise your implementation. This will be a popular service and orders will be completed on a first-come first-served basis as quickly as possible.

IMPORTANT: Paypal Encrypted Payments

BULLETIN To: All Ecommerce Sites Using The Paypal Encrypted Payment Method We are advising all ecommerce sites using the "Paypal Encrypted" payment processor on their sites to move to Paypal Express. Reason #1Paypal Express gives a smoother checkout process because we can retrieve address information from Paypal without users having to key it in during registration. This typically helps to improve conversion rates. Reason #2Paypal Encrypted works using certificates which expire after 3 years and need to be created afresh. This often catches out site owners who forget to re-generate certificates meaning Paypal payments cannot be taken on their website after the 3 year period ends, until new ones are created. How To Check If You Are Running The Paypal Encrypted ServiceYou can check you are running Paypal Encrypted in Admin > Payment Processor Manager > Paypal Encrypted status = ON. How To Implement Paypal Express (Recommended)Follow these instructions to install Paypal Express on your site. How To Renew Your Paypal Encrypted Certificates (Not Recommended)Follow these instructions to set up your Paypal Encrypted certificates. QUESTIONSDo I Have To Change To Paypal Express? It is not mandatory, but we strongly advise you change. If you decide to stay on Paypal Encrypted, you will need to check this payment method continues to work for you.Can I Check When My Existing Certificate Expires?Unfortunately there does not appear to be an easy way to check with Paypal when it expires. Can I Just Get Support To Change My Site Over To Paypal Express?Sorry, no. You are required to login to Paypal as part of the switch over, because you are the authorised user and it is effectively a bank account. We do not access client's bank accounts to make changes. However, the switch over instructions are very detailed to help make it as easy as possible. If you find any issues with the instructions then please report this via our ticketing system.

SUPPORT BULLETIN Paypal Security Change

SUPPORT BULLETINPlease note: Paypal has changed their systems to SHA-256 encryption from today, which we have tested REC with and all appears to work fine. There may be small delays in receiving IPN's (Instant Payment Notifications) back from Paypal for orders, thereby making them set to New Order status. Users can view the IPN status here:PayPal > Profile > Profile and Settings > My Selling Preferences > Instant payment notifications > Update > IPN History page. You will see "Sent" if the IPN should have been sent to us, "Queued" if PayPal hasn't got round to sending it to us yet, or if you see "Retrying" or "Failed" then this needs to be referred to us for further investigation.

There will be unavoidable periods during the day where your website will be unavailable and we advise that you do not make changes to your site whilst this is in progress. If you are running an ecommerce site you may decide to take your site down for maintenance for the day or turn it to enquiry mode only, as a precautionary approach. If you continue as normal, we advise you check your payment system records against your order manager records before despatch in case any payment notifications (IPN's) are sent to the server whilst it is temporarily unavailable. If you have email accounts with us, these will be unaffected. We are not able to provide specific times due to the nature of the upgrade process, so thank you for your patience whilst we undertake this work.
IMPORTANT: Google Product Feed Change - GTIN's

Google is increasingly enforcing the use of Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) identifiers for brand name products submitted via the product feed into Google Merchant Centre so that they then display in Google Shopping. GTINs help Google understand exactly what you're selling and therefore can boost your ad performance. You can find GTIN's on product boxes / packaging or from the manufacturer. To know whether you are affected, warnings are displayed in Google Merchant Centre under the diagnostics tab. If you have a managed product marketing service with us then your account manager checks this and will already have advised you about the tighter Google requirements for compliance by 16th May.If you are affected, then to help update your products more easily, we have created a new GTIN export program that allows you to export your product data either by brand or in its entirety.Go to Export System > Google Products GTINsSelect your brand or AllClick Generate GTINs CSVMake and save changes to the GTIN field NB We only re-import the GTIN column data!Go to Import SystemStep 1 select REC CSV Import (with headings)Step 2 select Google Products GTIN'sStep 3 select your modified GTIN CSVStep 4 click SubmitGoogle Merchant Centre is then updated overnight, but it can take them a further 24 hours to update their system. Allow for this and log back into it and check there are no more warnings. If there are, repeat the process till all of them have been resolved.

REL4.5: New Order Profitability Report, Delivery Checker & Export Functions

Release 4.5 is available from tomorrow morning and includes:Order Profitability ReportView how much profit you made within a specified date range using this new report. The system now records the product and option costs (using a new "cost" field that's been added to product options) on each order and then uses these to calculate overall order profitability. Discounts are taken into account and VAT is stripped out of the calculation. This is available via Admin > Reports. NB Remember you will need to add your product/option costs to each product for this to work out the profitability, otherwise it will simply be an order summary list. NOTE: This will collect data from the date of release onwards, it will not report historically because it is using new cost fields held on the order record.Delivery Issues / Conflicts ReportThis useful set of 7 tools can be used to identify issues, warnings or recommendations in the way your delivery is configured which might prevent users from being able to process their order, for example ensuring all the required regions and delivery services are live for your user base. This is particularly useful for more sophisticated delivery services and international shipping. This is accessible via Despatch & Delivery Manager > Issue/Conflict Report. When you run each tool, if there are no issues then it will report "We have found no issues to report" otherwise it will create a downloadable report for you to implement the required changes.Additional Import / Export OptionsAside from the existing import / export functions, you can now also import or export manufacturers, categories and product attributes.

New Features In 3.8: Multi Ad Generator, Embed Pages In Products & More

This release contains a large number of new enhancements, especially for ecommerce sites. If you do not wish to use any of these new features then continue to use your site as normal, you only need to make changes if you use features which require extra set up explained in the release notes. Multi Ad Generator Increases PLA Exposure For Generic ProductsThis feature allows you to create multiple Product Listing Ads (PLA's used in Google Adwords) for a generic product using it's category, manufacturer, options and attributes to create unique variations of that product. By having many more descriptive PLA's you will increase your reach in Google Shopping and potentially your conversion rate as the listing is more relevant to the user's search term. Sellers who already submit feeds which require specific attributes (such as clothing for example) will have their settings migrated to the Multi Ad Generator system automatically. Save Time By Embedding Common Content Into Product PagesInstead of typing the same content over and over again on each product page it relates to, you can now simply embed a content page into a product page, using it as a template in effect. Useful for things like wash instructions, fire hazards, handling instructions etc Save Time By Being Able To Create Tags Whilst Editing A ProductA little time-saving change allowing you to click and create new product tags whilst you are editing a product rather than having to go to another screen. Wish List ReportThis report lets you see what products have been added to wish lists by your visitors, sorted by most popular first. Set Special Offer DatesThis allows you to set dates for your special offers to run automatically. Change Quantity On CheckoutThis allows customers to add / reduce quantities on the shopping cart modal window and checkout page by changing the quantity field and clicking update. Custom Invoice TemplateYou can now set up a much more customisable invoice template. Product Back In Stock AlertsIf a product is out of stock, this allows buyers to sign up on the product page to receive an alert when a product comes back into stock. Checkout Buying RulesYou can now set up custom buying rules which are applied at Checkout to prevent customers from proceeding if they match the buying rule. For example, if you sell flammable products which can only be shipped by ground (i.e. only to countries or regions accessible by lorry), you can set up a rule to apply this restriction based on delivery regions. Display Terms & Conditions Tick Box On CheckoutYou can now display a Terms & Conditions tick box during the checkout process which buyers have to tick before proceeding. Usability Improvements:"All Categories" can now be changed via Set Site Definitions > ALL_CATEGORIES_TITLE Batch Products Processor "copy" function now lists up to 50 products that have been copied upon completion. This makes it easier to click on them and continue any editing you need to do. Tip: Right mouse click and open them in a new window so you can keep the list on screen. The Customer's ID is now displayed in the View User Profile button in Order Manager to save having to click through to the next screen to get it. The Order Total Weight is now displayed under the Order Qty in Order Manager to assist with despatching. The shipping tracking number can now be displayed in your order update emails by adding the tag {order:fob} into the "Email Order Update" System Page. This allows the buyer to track their delivery via the shipping agent's website. After you have added a product, it more clearly gives you a link to edit the product you just created. You can now upload multiple product images at the same time by selecting as many as you need from your computer. A more prominent message is displayed if it finds a file over the 250k limit. List all pages in Page Manager by scrolling to the bottom and toggling between Show All Pages / Show Limited Pages. This helps to more quickly find pages which hang off top level pages Sort form responses by Unread First / Newest First / Oldest First to help find responses more easily. Product filter tags are now sorted alphabetically Click here for full details about this release plus setup instructionsRelease date: 6th January 2015. Release version: 3.8.0
