Online shop, that is!

According to a poll on the Telegraph website on 1st February 2012, over 25% of people are now shopping on the web either daily or every couple of days, with 70% shopping online every week.

The article also referenced the latest figures from IMRG showing that the UK online shopping market reached £68.2bn last year growing by 16% compared to 2010. Estimates for growth in 2012 range from 16% - 20%.

The British are now the developed world's biggest online shoppers as a proportion of the population, with 6 out of 10 buying online. The average across the OECD's 34 countries is just 3 out of 10. With £2,180 being spent on average per adult, the UK is way ahead of the next biggest spenders, being Denmark with £1,000 per person per year. Following Denamrk are Norway, Korea, the Netherlands and Australia. The US has a third of the population buying online.

Despite the size of the UK spend, the OECD found that the UK has the fifth lowest number of businesses using the internet (businesses with 10 or more employees) lagging behind all OECD countries bar Turkey, Greece, Hungary and Chile.
